We are seeking a dedicated and caring Lead Teacher who enjoys working with children and thrives in a collaborative, supportive environment. Position Overview
Reports To: Lower Elementary Lead Teacher, Elementary Program Director, Head of School
Classroom Environment: Mixed-age classroom (ages 6–9)
The Lower Elementary Assistant Teacher plays an essential role in supporting a Montessori classroom that nurtures independence, respect, and curiosity. Working closely with the Lead Teacher, this position helps create a warm, safe, and engaging learning environment where each child is valued and supported.
Core Responsibilities
Classroom & Environment Support
Maintain the prepared environment by keeping materials clean, organized, complete, and engaging.
Help prepare classroom materials (e.g., cutting, laminating, restocking supplies) and handle additional classroom needs.
Support the Lead Teacher in implementing daily classroom activities and lessons.
Encourage independence, problem-solving, and respectful communication among students using Montessori principles of grace and courtesy.
Supervision & Logistics
Supervise students at all times to ensure their safety and well-being, including during outdoor play, recess, and field trips.
Assist with daily operations, including arrival, dismissal, and carline procedures.
Support substitute teachers to ensure classroom continuity and a consistent environment.
Observation & Administration
Observe and document student progress, sharing key insights with the Lead Teacher to support student growth.
Attend monthly staff meetings, held on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:00 PM.
Participate in parent meetings and school events as needed to support the school community.

Qualifications
Experience: Experience working with children in a classroom or similar setting (Required).
Education: High school diploma or GED (Required); some college coursework or a Bachelor’s degree (Preferred).
Certifications: Ability to pass all state-required background checks and maintain necessary health/safety clearances. [1]
Physical Requirements
This role includes standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor with students. The position also requires occasional lifting (up to 50 pounds) and supervising children outdoors in varying weather conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made.

Position Overview

Classroom Environment: Mixed-age classroom (Upper Elementary, ages 9–12)
The Upper Elementary Lead Teacher serves as a dynamic link between the child and the prepared environment. Guided by Montessori philosophy, the Lead Teacher designs and implements curriculum, acts as a systematic observer of student needs, and actively cultivates a nurturing, imaginative, and organized classroom culture.
Core Responsibilities
Classroom Leadership & Instruction
Develop and implement a curriculum that complies fully with Montessori philosophy across upper elementary language, mathematics, sciences, and cultural concepts.
Maintain the prepared environment, ensuring all furnishings, materials, and equipment create an organized, nurturing, and complete learning space.
Protect the privacy and working atmosphere of the classroom to safeguard student concentration and workflow.
Maintain discipline using natural, logical consequences and the Montessori peace process.
Supervision, Safety & Logistics
Ensure the safety and physical well-being of children at all times across all settings.
Supervise students consistently in the classroom, on the playground, and during all extracurricular activities.
Lead physical activities both indoors and outdoors, including group games, yoga, or daily exercise.
Participate in safety drills, training, and supervise children in monthly fire drills and quarterly lockdown/shelter-in-place procedures.
Manage arrival and dismissal by safely greeting children and assisting them out of and into their cars on a rotating basis.
Observation, Communication & Administration
Maintain current, accurate records, including individual progress notes, attendance, incidental notes, and an overview of class work.
Conduct two student-led conferences per year with parents/guardians, and meet individually as needed.
Maintain appropriate, professional communication with parents regarding children’s specific developmental needs and school operational needs.
Participate in staff and other collaborative meetings as deemed necessary by the school administration.
Report all accidents or unusual situations immediately to the administration, along with any personal difficulties involving children, parents, or staff.
Support school operational needs by contributing to school-related fundraising projects and other administrative planning tasks as requested.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in elementary education or a related field (Required).
Montessori Certification: Montessori Upper Elementary certification, or a certification actively in process (Preferred).
Experience: At least 2 years of prior work experience directly with children (Required).
Certifications & Clearances: Valid driver's license, clear criminal background check, medical exam, TB test, and Red Cross training in First Aid and community CPR.
Academic Skills: Ability to effectively teach upper elementary language arts, follow basic budget procedures, and teach advanced upper elementary math concepts.
Physical Requirements
This role regularly requires standing, walking, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and sitting on the floor with students. The position requires frequent use of hands to handle or feel materials, the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and close/distance vision adjustments. Teachers must be able to comfortably supervise children outdoors in varying weather conditions (including wet, humid, or cold environments). Reasonable accommodations may be made.
